Two years ago we hosted a faiVLive on “the gathering storm” of the pandemic and the crisis it presented for low-income households and the MFI industry. It’s clear now the industry has endured the storm better than many (or at least Tim) expected.
In this edition of the faiVLive, we look back at the last two years, where predictions and concerns were wrong and right, how the industry has weathered the storm, and what challenges remain. We have an interactive discussion including members of the Sentinel Project team who have been tracking the impact of the pandemic on key MFIs since June 2020. We look at how MFIs have risen to the challenge of the pandemic, but also the big questions about what comes next.
We dig into what MFIs, funders, investors and regulators need to do now to ensure the continued vibrancy and relevance of microfinance.

Editor’s Note: I’m going to assume that you are seeing plenty of AI content (news and papers, not AI slop, though I’m sure you’re getting plenty of that too) from other sources, so I’m trying to think hard about the marginal value that the faiV can provide. As far as I’ve gotten so far: a) make sure that directly AI-related content does not take up more than 2 of the 5 items, and b) try to focus specifically on the cybersecurity issue for financial inclusion. Beyond that, I’m open to feedback on the value you get from the faiV in relation to AI to help guide us in the future.
